Many people believe that God chooses the time, place and people to
heal. Repeatedly, I have heard "I don't know why I'm not healed:
guess God doesn't want me to be healed yet." The belief is that God
is withholding healing for some reason? We begin to question...
Do I not have enough faith?
Is this punishment for something I've done?
Is there a lesson I haven't yet learned?
Indeed, these questions have crossed my mind repeatedly over the years.
I've seen healing of several ailments: Multiple Chemical Sensitivities
and 32 years of pain from an injury to my right hand. Not to mention,
several little ailments like the flu, colds, funny spots on my leg, etc.
But I haven't yet seen healing from "the Big C." I have every
confidence that that will come. But in the meantime, I continue to
seek God on the subject of healing.
A few months ago, I received an
email newsletter
from pastor friends in Saskachewan, Canada. There has been a
revival in the town of La Loche. Pastors Mark Ramshaw and Kevin
Quesnel set up a gospel tent in this small town, advertised and revival
came. I cried when I got this message--things like this just don't
seem to happen in America. At least I haven't heard about it.
Why doesn't revival happen in America? Is God choosing to call
only those in other nations? Does Pastor Mark have a special "in" with
God? I
Revival isn't happening only in Canada. I have friends who minister
in Africa. Great things are happening there. Don Krow and
Leland Shores are heading a discipleship ministry to teach pastors in
Uganda. Leland wrote during a recent trip to Entebbe " The people
are hungry to teach discipleship and the pastors are begging to be discipled.
What a great work Gad has laid out before us. We have had great favor
here and the potential for discipleship ministry is everywhere." His
letter went on to tell of the many pastors and groups with whom they have
contact.
I don't believe that God is selective in whom he heals. I believe
he wants to heal everyone; that part of Jesus' atonement was for our healing.
Peter tell is in
I Peter 2:24
that Jesus came for our healing. In the Gospels, we see Jesus
healing those who came to him.
Is that what's wrong with us in the US? That we don't really come
to him, that is, totally believe in Him and His healing power. Paul
told us in
Romans 10:9-10
that we are saved if we confess the Lord Jesus and believe that He was
raised from the dead.
If one truly believes that Jesus was the Son of God and that God raised
Him from the dead, then we need to believe everything else that Jesus said
about himself and God the Father. It contend that the believe in the
resurrection is just a stretch that "Believing" isn't just about the resurrection.
It includes everything before and after.
Americans are well-fed, well-read and puffed up in our own knowledge.
My opinion is that's why we aren't so readily healed. Or, we
can't keep our healing. We are so used to feeding our doubts; we just
don't accept miracles at face value.
I'd like to give an example. Several years ago we went to a series
of lectures by a guest evangelist and healer from another country.
This man had a simple tale of the Gospel and the greatness of Jesus. He
told many stories of people who had been healed by believing this message.
Each day there were healings and testimonies from those who were
healed. The crowd was very excited. As we saw the healings,
we became excited and just knew healing was for us.
I saw a friend who wears two hearing aids take them out and back away
from the speaker, being able to hear numbers being repeated in soft tones.
I myself had been having pain and clicking in my left thumb; this went
away.
But then what? Several days afterward, my friend was again wearing
her hearing aids and wondering why the healing didn't last. My thumb
again tried to hurt; I kept telling it that I was healed and I wouldn't
accept the pain. Today I am pain free with no clicking.
I've come to the conclusion that it's easy to believe when there's so
much excitement and proof of God's goodness around. However,
many of us let our doubts get us. I believe that the devil is alive
and well. After a healing, he doesn't want one to keep that healing.
He'll influence us in a way to bring in doubts. And because
of our background, we can't just accept and believe. We let negative
arguments get to us.
People in many other countries lead hard lives. Accepting Jesus
can be a life endangering experience. Therefore, I believe that when
they accept Jesus, they are more prone to total acceptance. They make
a total commitment. Therefore, they are more apt to see healing and
keep it.
I've been thinking about this for a while and have come to that as
one conclusion. I don't believe that it's because Jesus and God are
being choosy about whom they will heal. But that we have blocks that
prevent us from receiving the healing or keeping it if we do receive. I
leave you to continue studying this subejct and draw your own conclusions.
