Bring
Back the Joy --- B B t J . O r g

(This text is a work in progress.  I am learning about love as I write this message.)

LOVE:  A FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

Love is listed as a fruit of the spirit in Galatians 5:22-23 .

The word is one we use frequently.  Males and females say "I love you."  Some of us just love chocolate.  I love reading.  Do we really know what Love is?

What is Love?

Let's question a little more about love from a Biblical perspective  (at least according to Virginia).  The Greek words for love are eros (romantic love), philio (brotherly love) and agape (God's love).   I wish to focus a little more on what God's love is all about.

God is Love.   I John 4:8, 16   Love is God's nature.  He wants the best for us.  We can find out more about him by reading the Bible.

Psalm 46:1  God is our refuge and strength.
Psalm 54:4  God is mine helper.
Psalm 59:9  God is my defence.
John 3:33  God is true
John 4:24  God is a Spirit
Hebrews 13:8  Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.   (We won't discuss the differences between God the Father and Jesus Christ today.  For this purpose, I am considering the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit all members of the Godhead.)

I did a search on Bible Gateway of scriptures that us the exact phrase "God is."  It was eye opening to me all the scriptures that show us actions, desires and nature of God.  Especially those that tell us what he does of us if we keep our hearts turned to him.

One of the things that most reveals God's nature is His names.  Mark and I have been doing a study on the Names of God .  I trust it will give insight into the nature of God.

The reason for this study has been to show what God's love is like and to what we aspire.  God is a spirit.  But ask yourself, as I am asking myself, what can I do on the human level.  Look at the scriptures above. While I may not be a spirit, I can certainly use my physical resources and strength to help and defind others.  I can certainly tell the truth.  As I read over the various scriptures that reveal God it us through his Word, I learn two lessons.  1)  To better appreciate God for who he is...1) Ways in which I can show love to others.

I believe that as we become closer to God by aligning to Him, we will begin to see changes within ourselves.  As time goes on, these changes will become obvious to other.
