October 19, 1990 Tourism Yukon Box 2703 Whitehorse, YT Y1A 2C6 Dear Tourism Agent: I am a former resident of Alaska, now living in Colorado. When we drove the route in October 1988, we noticed signs along the highway advertising the Anniversary of the Alaska Highway. According to the Milepost, construction began in 1942 with the dedication on November 1942. Is there are celebration being planned for the 50th anniversary in 1992? I would like to know the exact anniversary date of the Alaska Highway and dates of any celebrations that are planned. I am writing a book about my experiences in Alaska and will include our travels through the Yukon Territory and Canada.
